I was excited to read Life As Mom‘s post about a fall festival. Never dawned on me to write about fall stuff and my goodness, September has nearly come and gone!
It’s especially relevent that today’s theme is Feathering Your Nest! We found out just after Labor Day, that I am expecting again with an estimated due date of spring (April/May). I’m getting no closer than that because I was called DAILY in the week leading up to my due date last time and I about lost my mind. My ticker has a random approximate date picked.
Also, Bones and his business partner have decided to part ways and split the business and we’ve decided to move OUR part, into the home and just merge it with my languishing bookkeeping business so we don’t have to set everything up again. This also means, however, that instead of being in Baby Step 3 (emergency fund building), we will be in Baby Step 2 again (paying off debt) after the newest little one is born :(. I think in the long run it will be much better for us to have that control over our lives.
With all these changes, I’ve completely lost track of doing my fall things! This fall, I’ve got several things in the hopper.
First, I’ve reorganized a lot of stuff. Finally got rid of the last of the yard sale stuff last weekend and I WAS going to turn our now empty downstairs into a play/homeschool area. Now, however, it looks like we are going to turn it into Bones’ office so I need to clean that room out completely and finish putting stuff *away* and then make MY office the play/homeschool room instead. It’s smaller, but I can keep her in. I suspect DH will need the extra room.
I’ve also been cleaning off my calendar, too. I’ve been doing another purge of stuff that just stresses me out because I’m not getting to it in preparation for the new baby. And I got the Busy Body Book. Oh. My. Word. LOVE that! This little planner has made it possible for me to plan blog posts (along with 4 other aspects of my family’s schedule) and get them done with little impact on family time and THAT I love.
One thing that I’ve been ecstatic to add back to my calendar is Mothers In Christ. If you are in my area, you have GOT to come! I love these ladies and the Catholic fellowship is great. I also like that they have (optional) childcare so I can get a little adult conversation without all the interruptions that there are when I just hang out with other moms. Such great peeps and I’ve missed them all summer (playgroups don’t work as well since they are later).
I actually did some decorating this year! When I was purging, I kind of forgot what I kept. One tote was all I had left and it took one hour from digging it out of storage to putting it away to get it all up. WITH “help” from Lil’ Bit :).
My table:
The ledge:
I love that little haunted house that I got on super clearance from Hallmark one year!
The windows:
And the front porch:
It’s not a lot but it’s festive & kid-friendly and took an hour! Anything else will be done by/with little ones as craft projects.
My final project is to finish my office once and for all! I’ve got it severely pared down, but I still need to clean the closet, scan a bunch of stuff, shred a bunch of stuff and clean off the spare desk so I have space to work on my Christmas presents. It’s kind of scary, but the office was my “big project” when I was pregnant last time. Obviously, it didn’t get done :).
