*** Congrats to Barb S. ***

Yes, that disgusting picture is the state of my shower. After 3 months of first trimester fatigue and other yuckiness, this is what it looks like. Whoever decided that a slightly textured floor would keep you from slipping should be tortured because all it does is collect water for mildew to form. Yuck! At one point I only used Magic Erasers on this but since I’ve gotten my microfiber cloths, I only use those and some soap. And TONS of elbow grease!

Until, that is, I got my Seventh Generation Disinfecting Cleaning Kit:

I love Seventh Generation products and when I got this BlogSpark opportunity, I had to do it even though I was short on time. In this lovely pack, I received (among other things) some bathroom cleaner. I have to confess that I wasn’t happy with it to wash my counters. It’s kind of foamy, but since it’s not an aerosol can the coverage isn’t that great. But as I turned around to (try to avoid) looking at my gross shower, I wondered how the foam would stay on the grossest part of my shower walls. It stayed very well! And not only did it stay well, but I didn’t need to scrub as hard! Woot!

The other cleaners were awesome, especially at getting Lil’ Bit’s dinner crusty’s off of the kitchen table. Way better than water & soap, which is what I usually use. I also loved the little book — a great baby-step intro to getting greener in your kitchen.

Seventh Generation has created a new set of disinfecting cleaners that are natural! They contain “thymol, a component of the herb thyme, and can be used on hard surfaces including counter tops, plastic cutting boards, highchair trays as well as childrenΒ΄s toys. Best of all, they kill over 99.99 percent of germs* naturally and are effective against the Influenza A Virus, including H1N1.”

Want to try them for yourself? Seventh Generation and MyBlogSpark are offering up a prize pack to you just like the one I got. It includes:

a disinfecting multi-surface cleaner, bathroom cleaner, wipes, a copy of The Conscious Kitchen, a cleaning caddy made from recycled plastic, and two rolls of 100% recycled, unbleached paper towels.

Here’s my quick tip~keep a mister bottle of vinegar, after you shower just mist the shower floor while you dry off then cut the shower on for a sec to wash away the newly forming “scuz” and that vinegar smell, lol!

I use vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Recently stumbled upon Windex with Vinegar!! I rather find ways to use healthier and not toxic methods to clean. This is all too new for me. I’m slowly learning! I trusted those big companies to knwo what they were doing and relied on them to give me safe products. OH NO, not true my friend. It’s a scary world out there.

OOOO! would love to win! πŸ™‚

To clean my microwave, I put some baking soda in a glass bowl of water and microwave it for 4-5 minutes. The water steams up the microwave making it a breeze to wipe clean!

My cleaning trick is that I spend a few minutes every morning wiping down the counters and swishing the brush in the toilet in the bathrooms! It saves so much yucky work down the road!

My secret quick clean: every time I give my 6 year old a bath – which is every night – I clean one thing in the bathroom. One night I will scrub the toilet (mere seconds!), the next night I’ll wipe down the mirror, the next sweep, and so on. By doing one thing a night, I’m not faced with the overwhelming task of spending a 1/2 hour cleaning the bathroom! Oh, and I keep all my cleaning supplies in the bathroom!

My cleaning secret? Sprain your ankle, be completely non weightbearing on it for 3 weeks, and have your friends take pity on you and come clean your house!

Otherwise, my best friend and I often come help the other clean. It makes it go so much quicker!

I haven’t found anything that cleans as well as Magic Erasers. The newer ones with Febreze leave your bathroom smelling wonderful, too.

I would have to say my quick clean trick would be to throw everything in a laundry basket and sort when I can. At least the floor is picked up from all the little stuff like toys and socks. The other thing is to start in one room and have the trash bag, extra box, and laundry basket which then follow me from room to room (fly lady tip).

My cleaning secret is Hydrogen peroxide. It cleans and disinfects with out odor and can even clean your teeth. Put it in a spray bottle and spray spray spray on anything you like, from door handles to counters, to the bathroom. I use it around my baby and I know it is fine.
    Happy cleaning!

I wholeheartedly agree with you about textured shower floors–they’re the worst! Ugh, my shower needs a scrub so badly!

I’m a very lazy housekeeper, so my secret cleaning weapon is wipes: disinfecting wipes for counters etc., Windex wipes for mirrors, diaper wipes for miscellaneous messes….
