Scars and Stilettos is a story about how one woman’s fear of abandonment lead to an abusive and cruel relationship, drowning in debt, controlled by a man who openly sleeps around and finds herself thinking about exotic dancing as a way to survive.   Harmony paints a vivid picture of her early life — a broken home life with random people coming in and out and early (and ongoing) sexual abuse deadening her sense of self-worth.

The picture she paints and the attitudes she had are heart-breaking.  Extrapolate that to every young girl in her position — there are more than we will ever know — and it’s almost overwhelming.   It’s no wonder that sex sells more than ever and more women are trapped in a lifestyle that just isn’t healthy.

I’ve never been abused, but reading this book was difficult for me.  Harmony makes it easy to see how easy it would be for someone to baby step their way into a lifestyle like she did, which is what makes it so hard to read.    Just one or two events could have changed my life but for the grace of God!   This book is how God’s grace pulled Harmony back from the depths and back into his arms.   She now leads an organization called Treasures, helping women in the sex trade discover their true worth.

This was a hard book to read, but I’m glad I did!   I think all women should read it so they can help others who might be in this same situation or could help stop young girls from escalating into this type of situation.   It truly affects us all!

One of my friends is reading this book as well, so I was glad I happened upon your review. Sounds like one of those you have to be in the right mood to pick up and commit to.
