I recently received a super-cute board book by Marianne Richmond called The Night Night Book.   My 3 year old snagged it as soon as I opened the box and absconded with it!  It is a great beginner bedtime book since it has few words per page and engaging pictures.   The art was originally done in mixed media.  It is obvious where there were buttons, ric-rac, glitter, scrapbook paper, yarn, etc. used to make them.   It also has a lovely sounding rhyming structure to it.

Night night talking.  Not a peep.

Night night me.  Time for sleep.

Overall, we really like this book and I know it will be a regular in our bedtime book rotation for years to come!

Another favorite in our house is The Going-To-Bed Book by Sandra Boynton.   It is also a great rhyming book and there are lots of animals going through their bedtime routine.  Each page is a different color and there is plenty to discuss as well as read, like what sound does that animal make, or what exercise is he doing.   It’s been a great pretend book for us too (brushing teeth, washing up, rocking to sleep).   You won’t regret having this one around!

This last one is a classic that we happen to have as a board book —Goodnight Moon byMargaret Wise Brown.   Like the other two, we love the rhyming of this book.  It introduces a rabbit child and his toys and things.   Then he says goodnight to them all.  My daughter had this one memorized in short order and I loved reading it WITH her 🙂

What are your favorite bedtime stories?
