This original recipe came from the Betty Crocker Cookbook. I discovered it as a child and I usually try to make them during apple cider season. It’s a little late now, but they are wonderful freshly made. Mmmm….
Ingredients:
- 2 c. flour
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/4 c. oil
- 3/4 c. milk
- 1 egg
- 1/2 c sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon
Directions:
Heat deep fryer or oil to 375F. Measure flour, 1/4 c. sugar, baking powder, salt and nutmeg into a bowl. Add oil, milk and egg. Beat until smooth.
Drop batter by spoonfuls (smaller than golf ball or they will be raw inside) into hot grease. Fry for 3 minutes, flipping 1/2 way through, until GBD (golden, brown & delicious).
Roll warm puffs in cinnamon-sugar mixture.
Makes 12-24 puffs.
