As I mentioned earlier, we are doing preschool homeschool this year and one thing that has really been concerning me was how I was going to get it all done. My house is a sty, I haven’t been to the gym in a month, and this summer has been a complete waste as far as fun goes. And we were supposed to start school last month until I completely changed the game plan. Yikes!
Stephanie O’Dea’s new book Totally Together: Shortcuts to an Organized Life could not have arrived in my mailbox at a better time! Totally Together is not your normal how-to-clean-and-when book. It’s a ‘fit in the basics and make an effort to live’ book.
The beginning of her book has fabulous tips for keeping your house clean WITH kids. She talks about basics (like pick up after yourself and on-going cleaning) as well as chore charts for kids by age. There is also a great Christmas season planner that starts MONTHS in advance. She is inspirational and candid and makes me feel like I can keep my house clean and still have a life.
The best part of Totally Together, is the week by week planner. The left hand side includes her 7 daily tasks, weekly tasks, deep cleaning tasks for the week and some live life tips. She will remind you to do things like take time for you, cut your hair, plan a party, get your haircut, or make your dental appointments.
My only problem with the book is the format. It’s a wirebound book that feels and looks like a normal book in the home care section. It feels more like a planner to me and would be fabulous marketed more like a planner with larger pages and more space. It would be nice to have meal planning pages added instead of having to copy it & keep them in a separate spot, too.
Overall, I’m loving his book and can’t wait get to get my stuff together this school season! I highly recommend it to anyone who would rather live than clean. That’s everyone right ;)?
