Sometimes I’m surprised. And I don’t know why I should be. But I still am. I have to confess that when I found out the latest book that we would have to review for the Gabby Mom’s program, I groaned.
Helping Hearts Heal is an ebook to help those who are trying to help grieving people. It’s a completely foreign subject to me, to be honest. I’m pretty stoic. If it wasn’t a child or my hubby, I’d probably be sad during the services & occasionally in retrospect, but I just don’t seem to feel that deeply. Or something.
Even my two miscarriages weren’t that big of a deal to me other than the clear indication that something was wrong and I HAD to find an answer. So again, it’s kind of a foreign concept to me & I have trouble empathizing. I really don’t understand how people feel, so…
Anyway. I started to read through Helping Hearts Heal from Lorrie at Eternal Encouragement magazine. While I thought it would be primarily aimed at death, grieving & the grieving process, it was really much more than that.
It did talk about death & funerals and other tragedies, including what NOT to say. Since I specialize in putting my foot in my mouth, this was helpful :). However, it went deeper, including miscarriages & stillbirth deaths & grieving as well as how to help those people in the way you are best capable of.
I was surprised to see a whole section on meal preparation as a ministry…she’s a little like me that way :). I’m no good at being touchy-feely, but I can send you a meal! Not only does she go into what to take, what to not take & how to coordinate meals, but she also addresses long-term grieving & help.
It was really very useful to someone like me, who is not very empathetic but wants to help those who are hurting. If you are someone who always likes to do more, this is a great place to start.
