Spring cleaning is a term that a lot of people have heard of all around the world but many people don’t know where it originated from. Apparently, it comes from Iran and is used around the time of their New Year which is celebrated on the first day of spring. It is known as “shaking the house” and is done to prepare for the year ahead.

Spring cleaning is a popular task which is carried out in many countries all around the world but what about summer cleaning? People associate summer with lazy days, sunbathing, BBQ’s and going on holiday but you shouldn’t forget or neglect your house work. At the start of every season you should give your house a good once over, throwing out things you don’t need, giving your mirrors a good wipe down and dusting every room in the house.

Having a big summer clean is far more important than a spring clean because you’re preparing yourself for hot days out in the sun and entertaining guests and how can you do this if you know how dirty your house is.

Dirt: Summer is a time where many people entertain a lot because the weather is nice and you have more time to catch up with old friends and family. But, do you want to entertain in a dusty and dirty house? I didn’t think so. We agree that after the winter months you need a good clean but in the UK we don’t get the best weather in spring time with the bad weather continuing throughout the spring months. Detoxing from the cold winter and rainy months is what we need to do and the best time for this is in the summer.

Allergies: With summer comes allergies. Pollen is in the air constantly throughout the summer, floating around causing people to have allergy attacks. Giving your house a good clean will freshen the air and create a safe haven for those in your household who frequently have allergy attacks.

Bugs: The summer is when a lot of bugs begin to appear and are all over your house and garden. Unfortunately, bugs are dirty insects and leave behind a lot of mess, even if you can’t see it. Frequently giving your surfaces a wipe down will keep your house extremely clean and prevent  the spread of germs.

Food fights: When we say ‘food fights’ we don’t actually mean food fights, unless that’s what you like to do during the summer. That’s up to you. There are a lot of parties and gatherings that take place during the summer which means a lot of food is being consumed, or not so much. Food gets dropped, left behind and forgotten about quite frequently and, in the summer heat, the end result is not pretty.

Things to Remember

– Throw away any food that has been left out in the sun for too long

– Throw away food that has passed its sell-by-date.

– Keep a lookout for mould growing on food such as bread and fruits and never chance eating it if you spot something

– Throw out mouldy food as quickly as possible

Now, we’re not saying you shouldn’t give your house a good clean in the spring but we believe summer cleaning is more important. There is a lot to keep an eye on and keeping your house clean throughout the summer is important. Your home will be used by your family to get out of the searing sun and by guests when they visit but having them sat in a dirty, dusty house will not go down well.
