Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
I’ve been reading a lot lately. For whatever reason, it’s easier to put down a book than turn off my phone, so I’ve been preferring to read books in my spare moments. I was tickled to have a chance to review Into The Whirlwind by Elizabeth Camden.
Into the Whirlwind is a historical novel taking place during the Great Chicago Fire. Its the story of a young woman who is the owner of a watch company. The company employed all his old Civil War buddies who were disabled by the war. Her company is in the unenviable position of selling her high-end watches to only one store, who offers to buy her out.
Before the buyout can be completed, she figured out WHY they wanted to buyout & the factory was destroyed in the fire. During the fire, she learns that the handsome & intimidating lawyer negotiating the transaction has been in love with her for years. And her father’s war Captain comes to her rescue after the murder of HER lawyer. So who will she choose? And what will happen to her company?
As you might be able to tell, I loved Into the Whirlwind. It’s a Christian historical novel about the Midwest. The city is one I love to visit, it’s clean, it’s not preachy, it’s a romance and to top it off, it’s about business. I am a business junky — I love owning one, working in it and reading about it. The characters were great, the events were compelling & well described and I loved all the nuances of the story.
As far as books are concerned Into the Whirlwind is the perfect storm of my interests. It was a great read –light enough to consider it brain candy but interesting enough to consider it a worthwhile use of time. I highly recommend it.
