I’ve downloaded several books for my Kindle from the Quilts of Love series by Abingdon Press. When the opportunity came up to review not 1 but THREE new releases from the series, you can bet I was all over that.Aloha Rose by Lisa Carter is the first book I am going to review this season. None of the books in the Quilts of Love series are related. Most are set in present time, but are varied as to the place & situation. The thing that remains the same in each book, is the central placement of a quilt.
This book takes place in H’awaii. A girl is left on a doorstep as a baby wrapped in a quilt. A jet-setting travel writer & former Army brat, she is used to moving around. After the death of her adoptive mother, her father encourages her to seek out her birth family who found her on an adoption website.
When she arrives, she finds that her birth family owns a ranch. And their adopted son sets off fireworks. In ways both good and bad. Of course, he has his own issues and is extremely distrustful of her motives for meeting the family.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. There were several twists & turns that I didn’t expect and I loved the depth of the characters. The setting was also fabulous and I could imagine all the beautiful scenery. Her copious use of the Hawaiian language really helped to get an idea of the culture, too. She wove the Christian aspect of the book in well, also. There was quite a bit at the end but it wasn’t overdone in my opinion.
If you like getting immersed in different culture & ways of living this would be a great book for you. If you like adoption stories with your Christian romance, Aloha Rose might be right up your alley.
