classic-picture-book-trains-children

In addition to the awesome Usborne train book that we used in the Poppins book club last month, I’ve been meaning to share our favorite classic children’s picture books about trains.

First up is Freight Train. This is a simple little book (we have the board book), about the different kinds of train cars. Each one is a different color and they go zooming along the countryside until they are out of sight. Simple but cute.

The next one is harder to find and we have it in a board book, too–The Little Train by Lois Lenski. The Little Train is a delightful little rhyming story about Engineer Small and his train. It talks about the train, what’s on it, where it goes and what Engineer Small does at the end of the line.

The last one is The Little Engine That Could. It’s the story of a little train who is trying to get a load of toys and food over the mountain to the boys & girls. It breaks down & the toys try to get another train to haul its load. The only one who offers is a tiny train who has never hauled anything before. Of course, he succeeds. Another good classic story.

Do have any favorite train related picture books?

We like the Little Red train books by Benedict Blathwayt.

Thank you for your recommendations-I need to look these out.
