I almost blew off this month’s date night ideas post. We’ve been sooooo busy and all our dates have been on the boat :). But it’s the last month of summer and it you haven’t been yet, this is a great month to go on a picnic. Since its my favorite thing to do AND my birthday (and blog birthday), I decided to save it for August. As always, there will is a free, frugal & fun option.
The date ideas for busy parents theme for August is Picnics.
For Free
Luckily it’s super easy to do a free picnic. Just get creative with what you have–make sandwiches, have snack style lunch or even leftovers that are good cold or at room temperature (fried chicken comes to mind!). You don’t need anything fancy. If you have reusable containers, ziplock bags, paper plates, or plastic grocery bags, it works the same as fancy picnic gear. Find a park with a picnic table or even a blanket in your own back yard.
For Frugal
If you are looking for a frugal date and don’t have a sitter, try an at home picnic. Put on a (rare) movie & serve up pizza for the kids while you set up a blanket on a grassy corner of lawn. If you have a little room in your grocery budget, go out & get some special date night picnic fare. Don’t forget a special treat for you both!
For Fun
If you have a bit more time and/or money, go fancy! Plan, pack or buy a fancy picnic lunch. If you are a foodie, try a downtown eatery for some gourmet eats. Pack a bottle of wine or other beverage of choice (don’t forget the corkscrew!).
Go for a drive to a new or favorite beach, picnic spot, or roadside park. If you are the adventurous sort, you could even hike to a picturesque lookout spot. The more secluded the better, in my opinion ;)!
