Pirates On A Farm {Book Review} - Happy Little Homemaker

So you know we are huge Pirate fans around here, right? We have pirate costumes for every size & gender in the house (except Bones & I and its on the list) and International Talk Like a Pirate Day (September 19) is full-fledged Pirate week for school and in play. So when I had the opportunity to review Pirates on the Farm, I didn’t read any further than the title before I said YES!!!!

Pirates on the Farm is really a lovely book. Pirate books can take a couple of turns. They could be silly, or factual, or even downright kid-class raunchy (like the underpants pirate book, which we also love). We’ve read some 30+ pirate picture books and this one is totally unique. It has a good message AND is silly.

In Pirates on a Farm, some pirates decide to cash in their Dubloons for some farm land. The mom next door is really unhappy. The son LOVES it. The dad helps. As they get to know their pirate neighbors, they help them out and become friends with them, even the reluctant mom. It’s a well told story of accepting those who are different or weird and helping our neighbors. The illustrations are colorful and my girls really enjoyed it. Even my husband laughed out loud the first time I read it.

If you have pirate lovers but not many pirate books, this is a great one to add to your collection. It has a message, pirates and farming as topics, which gives it versatility throughout the year. Who am I kidding? It’s a pirate book. Buy it and you will all love it. Did I mention my two oldest are girls? Yep. If you have (or are) pirate fanatics, this deserves a place in your library.
